The mountain scenery was among the best we have seen and standing at over 4600 meters on the Salkantay Pass was an unforgettable experience. The 7km climb will take about 3 hours passing the imposing Salkantay Mountain (6271m). From the pass, we will look out over the surrounding valleys and awe-inspring snowy peaks of the Salkantay, Humantay, Tucarhuay and Pumasillo mountains, before a 5km downhill walk on a gravelly path for lunch at Huayracmachay. Gallop through undulating open vistas, climb rugged high mountain trails, and meander beside rolling rivers on your way to Machu Picchu. We house the finest American Quarter Horses from top farms in Uruguay that have been extensively trained with the sole purpose of becoming perfect Salkantay trail companions for riders of varied levels. The highest point on the trail is Salkantay Pass at 15090 feet/4600 meters. For many this is the highlight of the hike itself as you get to stand in the shadow of the gorgeous Salkantay Mountain.

After enjoying the views,  This trail is great for your first time in altitude because the high pass on the trail, Salkantay pass (4,650m = 15,252ft) is relatively easy. After that the trail descends   Salkantay Treks is led by an experienced team of trekking & tour guides from wild region of Peru by trekking through the Salkantay Pass to Machu Picchu. The trek continues uphill some 3 more hours to reach the highest point of our tour Salkantay Pass 4600 m.
